    Travel Advisory: Dengue Fever Alert

Many parts of the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central and South America are expected to experience a wetter than normal winter. A very wet winter can lend itself to a higher than normal mosquito population. If you are planning to travel to these parts of the world this winter, consider the following to protect yourself from mosquito borne illnesses (such as Dengue Fever or Malaria).

    • While outdoors:
      • Wear light colored clothing that covers most of the body (long sleeves and pants)
      • Use inspect repellent containing up to 35% DEET (the higher the concentration, the longer it repels)
    • While indoors or sleeping:
      • Use ‘knock-down’ insect spray to kill mosquitoes in your room
      • Check that there is fly-wire on the windows
      • Note that air conditioning also repels mosquitoes
    • A few simple precautions will help keep you healthy so you can experience all the fun and excitement of your trip.

    New Passport Requirements

    United States

As part of U.S. Department of State's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, all travelers (including newborns and infants) will be required to present a valid passport or other accepted document(s) to enter or re-enter the U.S. (visitors and U.S. residents) as early as January 23, 2007, from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
      • January 23, 2007: All persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document (MMDs).
      • January 31, 2008: All persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), will be required to present a government issued photo ID (i.e. driver's license) or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security and proof of citizenship (i.e. birth certificate).
      • The government will implement the full requirements of the WHTI initiative at a later date (to be determined). At that time, all persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document (MMDs). The government will notify of the exact implementation date once it's been determined.
      • Click here to get complete details on the new passport requirements for travelers including passport services.

Note: This does not affect travel between the U.S. and its territories. U.S. citizens traveling between the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa will continue to be able to use established forms of ID.

    Japan

Beginning November 20, 2007, the Japanese Ministry of Justice is requiring all foreign nationals who enters Japan be fingerprinted, photographed, and interviewed by an immigration inspector as a part of their immigration procedures.

      • The following groups are exempt from this process: diplomatic personnel, permanent Japanese residents, and persons under 16 years of age.
      • As a result of the new immigration procedures, there may be a potential impact on the processing time to enter Japan. The Japanese Ministry of Justice hopes to maintain a 20-minute maximum wait time for clearance lines.

    U.S. Airport Security Elevated

Due to the elevated air travel alerts issued by the Department of Homeland Security, there are a number of changes to the regular screening procedures at airports around the country. These polices apply to ALL domestic and international flights originating in the United States. (Note: Passengers traveling from Canada, or the UK, should check the policies related to the respective country.)

    Change or cancel flight reservation
Change Your Flight: Most tickets that allow changes have a fee that is charged when the ticket is reissued. These fees are charged in addition to any fare increase for the changed itinerary. Some tickets do not allow any changes, even with a fee. Even if the ticket allows changes, some types of changes are not allowed.
    • You cannot change the name on an airline ticket or give the ticket to someone else to use.

    • You cannot exchange a ticket from one airline to another.

    • Some airlines will not allow the ticket to be reused if the original reservation was not cancelled within their designated timeframe.

Cancel Your Flight: You can cancel your airline reservation, however, your ticket may have no value or be subject to penalties for any changes to your itinerary. Be sure to check the cancel calculator before you decide to cancel your reservation. All airline tickets are subject to the rules and restrictions you agreed to at the time of purchase. Non receipt of confirmation email

After completing your booking you should receive a confirmation page with your Trip ID # followed by a confirmation email. If you did not receive your confirmation email, we recommend that you check the Spam folder in your email to ensure that your confirmation email was not auto-filtered to that folder. Additionally, you may want to add Cruise Tag to your “allowed” senders list so that we can send you confirmation emails and information regarding your future departures. If you don't receive your confirmation email, please call us and let us know.

    Electronic ticket details
If you have purchased e-tickets for your airline reservations, paper documents are not issued by TCruise Tagor the airline. Your ticket record is stored in the airline's computer system.

What to take to the airport:

    • For travel within the United States, all you need is your government-issued photo ID, although some airlines also require that you show the credit card used to purchase your ticket.
    • For international travel, a passport is usually required and a visa may also be required, depending on your destination. We recommend that you bring with you to the airport a printed copy of your confirmation email or the confirmation page from the Cruise Tag Web site.

If you did not receive a confirmation email:

    • Check the Spam folder in your email account to ensure that your confirmation email was not auto-filtered to that folder.
    • Add Cruise Tag to your “allowed” senders list to enable us to send you confirmation emails and information regarding your future departures.

When you check-in with the airline:

    • Present your identification, either at the airline counter or kiosk.
    • The airline will access your ticket record online and issue your boarding pass.
    • Once you receive your boarding pass, proceed to the security checkpoint and your departure gate.

    Reconfirm flight reservation
For travel within the United States: You do not need to reconfirm your reservations. We strongly recommend that you review your itinerary on-line before your travel date as airlines may change flight numbers and times. Your online itinerary is kept current and updated with any changes made by you or the airline.

For international travel: Some international airlines do require that passengers call 24 to 72 hours prior to departure to reconfirm their flights. For your convenience, check our list of airline phone numbers.

On the day of travel: You may call the airline to check the status of your flight or use our Flight Status page to check online

Adding additional passengers to an existing booking

We will be glad to assist you in adding additional travelers to your reservations when possible. In some cases we will need to create a new reservation for the new travelers. Rules and processes vary by product.

    Book reservation by phone

Cruise Tag is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week to assist you in booking your reservations by phone. Phone booking fees are charged for some products. Contact us at Cruise Tag* (800.973.9012) to make airline, hotel and/or car reservations or cruise reservations.

    Military and government rates
It will be necessary for you to contact the airline, hotel or car company directly for information and booking of military or government discounted rates.
    • The airline, hotel and car companies do not offer access to these rates through our site (or most travel agencies).
    Service Fees
There is no fee to access and use our online reservations system to research airfares, car rental rates, and hotel rates. In most cases a service fee will be assessed for airline reservations booked on-line. Certain hotel bookings will also have service fees.

    Booking Online:

    • A standard per ticket fee will be charged for most air reservations booked online. The fee may vary from carriers and/or markets, but is typically $5 - $11 per ticket. In all cases, the service fee is included in the price quoted to you on the "Select Your Flight" page at the beginning of the booking process.
    • Ordering paper tickets, rather than e-tickets, or booking itineraries where the airline requires a paper ticket may add an airline imposed fee of up to $20 to $25 per ticket (dependent on the airline), as well as delivery related fees.
    • Service fees may apply to certain hotel bookings. These fees are included in the taxes and fees total in the 'Price Summary' area presented prior to completion of your booking.
    • No service fee is charged for car, Vacation Package (air+hotel) or cruise reservations.

    Booking by Phone:
    • A service fee of $25 per ticket for domestic ($35 per ticket international) plus the standard per ticket fee may be charged for airline tickets purchased by phone. This service fee may be charged up to a maximum of 3 tickets per reservation. Additional passengers (4th and above) in the same reservation will only be charged the standard per ticket fee (usually $5 - $11 per ticket).
    • Ordering paper tickets, rather than e-tickets, or booking itineraries where the airline requires a paper ticket may add an airline imposed fee of up to $20 to $25 per ticket (dependent on the airline), as well as delivery related fees.
    • No service fee is charged for stand alone hotel or car reservations made by phone.
    • Vacation Packages (Flight + Hotel) have a single $25 fee charged per booking.

    Reissue / Change Ticket:

    •  Costs associated in changing or canceling your reservation:

      Cancel your ticket

You can cancel your airline reservation after 24 hours; however, your ticket may have no value or be subject to penalties for any changes to your itinerary. All airline tickets are subject to the rules and restrictions you agreed to at the time of purchase. Many tickets are non-refundable and some have no value for future purchase.

      Change your ticket:
Most tickets carry penalties for changes. If you change your itinerary, a new ticket must be issued. Airlines charge a fee to exchange your original ticket for credit. The average reissue fee for a non-refundable or restricted ticket can be $100 or more for a domestic ticket, and $200 or more for an international ticket. However airline fees vary widely by carrier and by type of ticket (for example domestic versus international). If the new airfare is greater than the original airfare, you must pay the fare difference in addition to the reissue fee. Travelocity and other travel agencies do not control the fees set by the airline and have no authority to waive them.

Some tickets do not allow any changes, even with a fee. Some types of changes are not allowed, even if the ticket allows changes. Here are some general restrictions:

      • You cannot change the name on an airline ticket or give the ticket to someone else to use.
      • You cannot exchange a ticket from one airline to another.
      • Some airlines will not allow the ticket to be reused if the original reservation was not cancelled within their designated timeframe.

To change your ticket, please choose from the following options:

      1. Contact Cruise Tag. Cruise Tag can assist you in exchanging your original ticket for a new itinerary.
        • A $30 per ticket fee will be assessed for this service.
        • If you have a paper ticket, you must send the ticket to our office. We cannot process the exchange until we receive the original ticket. Ask your Customer Care agent for instructions on exchanging a paper ticket.
      2. Contact the airline. You can contact the airline directly to change your ticket. The airline will provide you with instructions on exchanging your original ticket when you confirm your new itinerary.

    • Please do not call the hotel directly to make changes or cancel a prepaid hotel reservation, as their agents will not be able to change or issue refunds for these specially negotiated rates.
    Book reservation by phone
Cruise Tag is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week to assist you in booking your reservations by phone. Phone booking fees are charged for some products. Contact us at Cruise Tag (800.973.9012) to make airline, hotel and/or car reservations or cruise bookings.
    Military and government rates
It will be necessary for you to contact the airline, hotel or car company directly for information and booking of military or government discounted rates.
    • The airline, hotel and car companies do not offer access to these rates through our site (or most travel agencies).
When credit card will be charged for hotel booking
If you have reserved a GoodBuy (pre-paid) hotel rate, your credit card will be charged at the time of booking and includes most taxes. Incidental costs such as meals, laundry, mini-bar, telephone and parking are not included in your reservation rate.

For non-GoodBuy (pre-paid) hotel reservations payment is made at the time of check-out at the hotel. Local and state taxes and fees are not included in your quoted rate unless stated. These charges generally range from 10%-20% of the room rate and are added to your bill when you checkout as well as any incidental charges

On the day of travel: You may call the airline to check the status of your flight or use our Flight Status page to check online.

Airline bankruptcy affect on future reservations
Airline Bankruptcy - Chapter 11 Filing:
    • Airlines operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection continue operations as usual as they attempt to reorganize. The bankruptcy filing by the airline should not have a major impact on their day-to-day flight operations.
    • What You Need To Know If You Have A Booking Or Want To Make A Booking
      • Flights: The airlines continue to fly and honor their reservations as well as accept new bookings.
      • Tickets: Tickets issued are valid as ticketed. It is unlikely that the airline will grant refunds or rule exceptions to ticket holders as there should be no interruption in service. Travelocity cannot grant refunds or rule waivers without the airline's authorization.
      • Schedules: In general, scheduled departures are not affected by bankruptcy. If flight schedules are changed or reduced the airline will re-accommodate ticketed passengers on flights closest to their originally scheduled flights. If a significant change is made to your scheduled itinerary, our customer care center will contact you with full details of the changes. In addition, all changes will be reflected in your on-line itineraries.

Airline Cessation - Chapter 7 Filing:

    • If an airline files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, it is possible that there services may cease immediately.
    • The U.S. Congress, as part of the Intelligence Reform bill, has extended the part of the law that requires other domestic airlines are to honor tickets, per availability of seats on scheduled flights, for passengers who have purchased tickets on an airline that has ceased operations.
      • The Intelligence Reform bill extends the protection through November 30, 2006.
      • The ticket provision requires domestic carriers, within reason, to accommodate passengers whose travel plans are disrupted by another airline that goes out of business. While no dollar amount is stated in the bill, The Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a ruling that they consider $50 (one way) to be a reasonable maximum fee. Recent increases in fuel costs may cause this fee to be re-evaluated.
      • The provision only applies when seats are available and only on overlapping routes.
      • Travelers have 60 days after an airline ends service to make alternative plans or complete their travel.

    Cruise Tag  Best Price Guarantee
The Cruise Tag Best Price Guarantee is our commitment to deliver the best prices every time you shop. If you find a qualifying lower rate for travel booked with Cruise Tag within 24 hours of booking, we'll not only match the price, but give you a $50 future travel credit

Please read the Terms and Conditions for full details:

    Terms and Conditions:

WHEN DOES THE BEST PRICE GUARANTEE APPLY?

    1. The Best Price Guarantee applies to the following products booked on Flights, Hotels, Cars, Cruises, Vacation Packages (such as Flight + Hotel), Last Minute Packages, and Activities.
    2. In order to be a Qualifying Lower Rate, the lower rate must be for an identical booking, as described in these Terms and Conditions. All booking details, including the following, must exactly match the details of the product you booked on Cruise Tag: specific carrier or provider (including class of service), hotel (including room type), cruise line (including ship and cabin category), rental car company and vehicle class, applicable refund policy, dates and times of travel or service, routings (for example, same stopovers), and other booking details.
    3. For any standalone product purchased on Cruise Tag, a Qualifying Lower Rate must be a rate for another standalone product. For example, for a standalone Flight booking made on Cruise Tag, a Qualifying Lower Rate shall not include the flight portion of a Flight + Hotel vacation or Last Minute Package on Cruise Tag, or the flight portion of a vacation package on any other U.S.-based Web site.
    4. Qualifying Lower Rates do not include rates on Web sites where the carrier, property, rental car company, itinerary, or similar booking details are opaque or unknown until after purchase, or where prices are determined by any sort of auction or bidding. Qualifying Lower Rates do not include errors or mistakes.
    5. A Qualifying Lower Rate must be both advertised and available to the general public on a U.S.-based Web site. Qualifying Lower Rates shall not include corporate discounts or rates, group rates, charter rates, rewards program rates, incentives, meeting rates, convention rates, consolidator or interline prices, or prices available only by using a coupon, or any other rates or promotions not offered to the general public. A Qualifying Lower Rate may not come from a Web site which requires you to call to get the rate, or from an email that you received. The Qualifying Lower Rate must be quoted and booked in U.S. dollars (without reference to currency converters).
    6. In order to be a Qualifying Lower Rate, Cruise Tag must be satisfied that you meet all requirements otherwise imposed on the lower price, including residency, regional, membership, age-related, and other requirements.
    7. The Low Price Guarantee applies only to the base cost, and not taxes and fees (or service fees), of standalone Flight, Hotel, Car, and Cruise bookings. For such bookings, any service fee or tax recovery charge is not considered in determining whether you have found a Qualifying Lower Rate. For example, with respect to a standalone Flight booked on Cruise Tag, the Low Price Guarantee applies only to the base cost of airfare, not including any taxes and fees. For all Activities and vacation packages, including Flight + Hotel, Flight + Hotel + Car, Flight + Car, Hotel + Car, and Hotel + Activities packages, taxes and fees are included in determining whether you have found a Qualifying Lower Rate.
    8. For Cruises, the Low Price Guarantee applies only to the cost of the cruise, including port charges, which you booked on Travelocity. The cost of additional items in your cruise booking, such as air or land components, insurance, shipboard credits, free upgrades, transfers, pre- or post-cruise hotel stays, onboard amenities, gift cards/certificates, cash back and/or dollars off, or other add-ons or optional items are not subject to the Low Price Guarantee, and shall not be considered in determining whether you have found a Qualifying Lower Rate.
    9. For a car only booking, the Low Price Guarantee applies only to the cost of the car rental booked on Cruise Tag's main car booking engine as compared with the cost of a car rental available on the main car booking engine of Cruise Tag or another U.S.-based Web site. A rental car price which may be available in association with another travel product (or in the booking path for another product), for example, a car rental price for a rental made in a cruise booking path or in a booking path of any other product shall not be a Qualifying Lower Rate.

HOW DO I INVOKE THE BEST PRICE GUARANTEE?

For stand alone Car rental and non-prepaid Hotel bookings,  in order for us to verify your claim, you should send us a copy of your car or hotel receipt by fax or email.  We cannot verify stand alone Car and non-prepaid Hotel bookings until you send us your receipts by fax or email.

    3. After we verify your claim, the refund will be in the form of a check mailed to you.
    4. For Cruise bookings, you must have either paid for the booking in full or paid a deposit on it, in order to qualify for the Low Price Guarantee.

    Recommended gratuities for cruise staff
Cruise lines vary in how gratuities are handled. A few cruise lines include tipping in the total cruise price or have a “no tipping” policy, and will inform you. Some lines will automatically charge your tip daily to your onboard account (you can usually arrange to have the amount adjusted). While other cruise lines have you tip in cash at the end of the cruise via envelopes provided by your cabin steward. Here are some general guidelines as to who usually gets a tip, and how much:
    • In addition to the amounts listed below a 15% gratuity will be added to any bar purchases.
    • A good rule of thumb is that you will tip about $10 per person in your cabin per day of your cruise. For example, if you are on a three-day cruise and have two people in your cabin you would pay $20 per day, or $60 total in tips.
    • Here is a general breakdown:
      • Wait Staff / Restaurant: about $5.50 per day (Head waiter $3.00, Bus Boy $2.50).
      • Cabin Staff (Cabin Steward): about $3.00 per day.
      • Other: about $1.00 for the following - Alternative Dining Charge, Restaurant Manager, Maitre d', Chief Housekeeper.
    • Plan for about $2.50 to $3.00 per person per day for your room steward and dining room waiter, and about half that amount for your busboy.
    • Other ship personnel can be tipped for special services at your discretion.
      • Some recommendations include $1.50 per person in your party to your assistant waiter, and a total of $2.50 per person for your headwaiter on three- and four-night cruises. For seven-night and longer cruises, headwaiter gratuities are at your discretion.
Suggestions to avoid motion sickness on cruise
It should ease your mind to know that the most popular cruise areas boast some of the calmest waters in the world.
    • Stabilizers on modern ships, availability of accurate weather information, and development of effective preventative medications have greatly reduced the incidence of motion discomfort.
    • Many over-the-counter medications are very effective. You can buy a patch or a bracelet from your local drug store to prevent seasickness, and increase comfort.
    • Motion-sickness medications may be available free of charge from the Purser's Desk or your cabin steward.
    • Choosing a cabin located in the center of the ship often helps. This location experiences less movement than cabins located on the top decks or cabins located in the bow or stern of the ship.
    Travel documents for cruise
    Passports -
If you are traveling outside of the United States, it is important for you to be aware of the passport and visa requirements of each country you are visiting. Requirements vary by destination and citizenship of the traveler. In most cases, a passport will be required to depart and return to the United States. The country you are visiting may also require you acquire a visa prior to your departure. Make sure you get all the information you need well in advance of your trip. Travelocity does advise that it is always best to bring your passport with you when traveling to a foreign country. Please be advised that you will be denied boarding without proper identification and documentation.

Note: The Department of Homeland Security's Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative requires that all travelers entering or re-entering the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda carry a valid passport. Travel between the U.S. and U.S. territories (including Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) will not be affected. Please note the following new guidelines:

    • Air Travel -  Click Here  for passport details.
    • Sea (Cruise) Travel: As early as January 1, 2008, passports will be required for cruise passengers entering or re-entering the U.S.
    • Requirements for a U.S. citizen to obtain a passport can be reviewed on the U.S. Department of State website (click here).

Visas - To determine if a visa is required for a port of call, please check the consulate of the country of each port of call you will be entering
Minors - If children are not traveling with BOTH parents, a notarized letter of consent is required from the absent parent.
Recent Name Changes - Married women who are not carrying a passport must bring a copy of their marriage certificate to show change of name. In the case of divorce and re-marriage, divorce certificates must be provided as well.

Please review each cruise lines' detailed terms and conditions before completing your purchase.

    • All cruise documents issued prior to sailing will include current policies for travel identification documentation requirements, including proof of citizenship and proof of identity. Please be advised that you will be denied boarding without proper identification.
    • Our agency is not responsible for passengers who fail to obtain the proper documentation for their cruise destinations.
Best cabin locations on a cruise ship
The best cabin location is really a matter of personal preference.
    • Some travelers prefer an ocean view cabin on a high deck, while others prefer an inside cabin, or a cabin in the middle of the ship where they are less likely to feel the ships movement.
    • Whichever cabin you decide upon, remember that none of the cabins are located under the ships water level, and they are all equipped with modern conveniences.
    • Consult one of our Cruise Experts to help you find the perfect fit.
    • Cruise Experts are available at 877.815.5446, Monday - Friday, 8am to midnight (Eastern Time), Saturday / Sunday, 11am - 7:30pm (Eastern Time).
    Cruise evening wear suggestions
Casual, comfortable outfits should do the trick.
    • Shorts, short-sleeved shirts, lightweight pants, a sweater, swimsuit and cover-up, comfortable walking shoes, non-skid shoes for strolling on deck, and sandals are some suggestions.
    • Of course, if you're going on an Alaskan cruise, you may also want to bring along a jacket and other cool-weather cover-ups.
    • If going on a shore excursion, please consult the Shore Excursion Desk to find out what is appropriate to wear while touring. Some shore excursions, especially those to religious sites, require long pants and shoes, while others require swimsuits and sandals. Make sure to check with the appropriate ship personnel to ensure you are properly outfitted for you trip ashore.
    • For seasonal cruises, plan accordingly. Be sure to include warm sweaters, jackets, long pants, and extra socks.

On the day of travel: You may call the airline to check the status of your flight or use our Flight Status page to check online.

    Online check-in
Most airlines offer online check in directly through their websites.
    Checked baggage limitations / restrictions
Airlines rules for checked-baggage allowances vary. Many carriers allow passengers two checked bags and one carry-on while some only permit two checked bags. A few airlines have a three checked bags and no carry-on rule. If you have any doubts it is always best to contact the airline directly and don't assume what was true last time you traveled is true today.

    Domestic:

    • Most U.S. and Canada based carriers have altered their baggage rules to permit two checked bags with a maximum weight of 50lbs each with dimensions up to 62 inches (length + width + height). For most carriers, the rule is two bags with a combined total weight of 70lbs and dimensions up to 62 inches.
    • If you have more than two bags to check or you are concerned your baggage may exceed airline weight allowances, consult the airline before you get to the airport to learn the exact limits. Be prepared to provide the weight and/or dimensions of each piece of baggage that you wish to transport. The airline representative can provide you with approximate costs for oversized and/or extra pieces.
    International:
    • For most Atlantic and Pacific crossings to/from North America, airline baggage allowances range from 2 to 3 bags permitted. Most U.S. based carriers and some international carriers have adjusted their baggage maximum weight allowance down from 70 lbs to 50 lbs per bag. Each airline has the right to have its own policy. Other airlines may also adopt these changes. If you have questions about your permitted baggage weight or are to have more than 2 checked bags we recommend you contact the airline directly for the allowances specific to your trip.
    • Most non-Atlantic and non-Pacific crossings have lower baggage allowances. In most cases airlines have a maximum total amount permitted. The maximum free checked baggage in some cases is 44 lbs per person or lower (not per bag).
    Documents needed for international travel
Passport and visa requirements vary by destination and citizenship of the traveler. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct documents needed for travel to any international destination. If you do not have the required documentation you will be denied boarding at your departure point and/or into the country you are visiting. Important passport and visa information and links to Web sites that can assist you in acquiring needed documents are provided below.

If you are a U.S. citizen:

Passports: A passport is an official government document that certifies one's identity and citizenship and permits a citizen to travel abroad. In most cases, a passport will be required to depart and return to the United States. Travelocity does advise that it is always best to bring your passport with you when traveling to a foreign country.

    • In nearly all cases you will need a U.S. Government issued passport.
      • Review the requirements for a U.S. citizen to obtain a passport on the U.S. Department of State Web site.
      • Requirements for children under 14 years are different than for adults. Review the information for “children under 14 years”.
      • If you do not have a passport be sure to allow enough time for your application to be processed. Procedures do exist to expedite passport issue. Please read the information on the U.S. Department of State Web site carefully.
        • Some destination countries require at least 6 months remaining validity on your passport from the date of entry to your destination.
    • Click here to get more information on the new requirements including proposed rules for entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry.
    • Click here to access passport and visa information on the U.S. Government's Travel.State.Gov Web site. They include all forms that you need, where to submit to, processing times, and more.

Note: This does not affect travel between the U.S. and its territories. U.S. citizens traveling between the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Swains Island and American Samoa will continue to be able to use established forms of ID.

Visas: A visa is an endorsement stamped on your passport by foreign customs officials that allows you to visit that country. The country you are visiting may also require you acquire a visa prior to your departure. You get a visa from the country's embassy, consulate or through a visa service.

    • Some countries will issue you a "visa on demand" (stamped into your passport when you arrive in the country). However, many countries require that you obtain your visa before you enter their country.
    • If your itinerary includes a transit stop (e.g., connecting flight) in a country that is not your final destination, you may also need a transit visa regardless if you plan to exit the airport or not. While this is requirement is not common make sure you verify any transit visa requirements prior to departure.

If you are not a U.S. citizen:

    • You should contact your consulate or embassy office or a visa service to verify your requirements.
Airport check-in procedures & security line wait times
To meet the requirements of the Aviation Transportation and Security Act, many airports have increased screening through the use of advanced detection systems, physical searches, and positive passenger bag matching. In addition, the TSA provides wait times and trip preparation tips on their web sites. To ensure safe and efficient passage, please review the guidelines and links below.

    Preparation / Check-in Procedures:

    • Travelers should reconfirm their flight times directly with the airlines either the night before or early the day of departure to ensure that no last minute schedule changes have occurred.
    • Have your government-issued photo ID available at all times. If you are traveling with a child or children under the age of 18 on a domestic flight, per FAA rules, they do not need photo ID as long as an accompanying adult certifies their identity. For international flights all passengers will need their passports.
    • When you arrive at the security checkpoint, please take laptops out of carrying cases before putting them through screening devices, and be prepared for additional hand searches of carry-ons.
    • Additional tips and information on airport security and check in procedures can be reviewed on the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and SafeTravel.dot.gov Web sites.
